If you look at the first picture I included in the article the boxes instead of having a TM mark have a black dot on chipKIT.
The only TM is on PIC32 in the back of the box.

Funny thing about the TM though - on my boxes, as on yours I think, the little TMs have been crossed out with a marker. I think they either expected to have it done by launch and didn't, or the name didn't get through the patent office the first time.
